How to Make Your Own Nut Milk

Making nut milk at home is surprisingly easy. You only need a few tools and ingredients:

- Ingredients: Nuts of your choice (such as almonds or cashews), water, and optional sweeteners or flavorings. My personal favorites are almonds & pistachios with vanilla bean.

- Tools: Either a nutmilk maker or a blender and a cheesecloth or nut milk bag for straining.


1. If you are using the blender method, then soak the nuts overnight in water to soften them. If using a nut milk maker, you do not need to soak the nuts.

2. Drain and rinse the nuts.

3. Blend the nuts with fresh water (typically, a 1:4 ratio of nuts to water) until smooth.

4. Strain the mixture through a cheesecloth or nut milk bag to remove the pulp.

5. I then will add my vanilla bean. I love the Trader Joe's vanilla bean paste, however you can scrape whole vanilla beans as well! Enjoy your fresh, homemade nut milk!

It also allows for endless customization—you can adjust the thickness, sweetness, and flavors to suit your preferences.
